Command (
) The Command department is ultimately responsible for the ship and its crew, and those within the department are responsible for commanding the vessel and representing the interests of Starfleet.
Commanding Officer Ultimately responsible for the ship and crew, the Commanding Officer is the most senior officer aboard a vessel. S/he is responsible for carrying out the orders of Starfleet, and for representing both Starfleet and the Federation. First Officer The liaison between captain and crew, the First Officer acts as the disciplinarian, personnel manager, advisor to the captain, and much more. S/he is also one of only two officers, along with the Chief Medical Officer, that can remove a Commanding Officer from duty. Chief of the Boat The senior-most Chief Petty Officer (including Senior and Master Chiefs), regardless of rating, is designated by the Commanding Officer as the Chief of the Boat (for vessels) or Command Chief (for starbases). In addition to his or her departmental responsibilities, the COB/CC performs the following duties: serves as a liaison between the Commanding Officer (or Executive Officer) and the enlisted crewmen; ensures enlisted crews understand Command policies; advises the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer regarding enlisted morale, and evaluates the quality of noncommissioned officer leadership, management, and supervisory training.
The COB/CC works with the other department heads, Chiefs, supervisors, and crewmen to insure discipline is equitably maintained, and the welfare, morale, and health needs of the enlisted personnel are met. The COB/CC is qualified to temporarily act as Commanding or Executive Officer if so ordered.Yeoman The Captain's Yeoman is for Petty Officers who wish to continue as administrators. It is technically a non-Mate position. Use of this position is completely at the discretion of the Commanding Officer. File work, and sensitive message transport are but two examples of the Yeoman's possible duties. The Yeoman assists the CO in day-to-day duties that the CO would otherwise not have the time to do. Finance Officer Along with the quartermaster is responsible for the procurement of supplies and other commodities aboard the ship. Records Officer Responsible for ensuring accurate records of the mission and personnel are kept during the mission. Legal Officer Responsible for advising the Captain on all legal matters pertaining to Federation law and inter-ship discipline. This position is usually filled by a qualified lawyer. -

Operations (
) Responsible for the navigation and flight control of a vessel and its auxiliary craft, the Operations division includes pilots trained in both starship and auxiliary craft piloting as well as navigators and other personnel to help in running the various ancillary operations of the ship.
Helm Officer A Helm Officer must always be present on the bridge of a starship. S/he plots courses, supervises the computers piloting, corrects any flight deviations and pilots the ship manually when needed. The Chief Helmsman is the senior most Helm Officer aboard, serving as a Senior Officer, and chief of the personnel under him/her. Weapons Officer The weapons officer is the equivalent of the modern tactical officer of 2391. They are responsible for ensuring the targetting and effective firing of weapons aboard the ship. This position is regularly combined with Security. Relief Helmsman A Helm Officer must always be present on the bridge of a starship, and every vessel has a number of Helm Officers to allow shift rotations. S/he plots courses, supervises the computers piloting, corrects any flight deviations and pilots the ship manually when needed. Helm Officers report to the Chief Helmsman. Ordnance Officer (Phasers) This ordnance officer is responsible for the optimum function and firing of the phasers on the ship. They work from the phaser firing rooms and report to the Weapons Officer. Ordnance Officer (Torpedoes) This ordnance officer is responsible for the optimum function and firing of the phasers on the ship. They work from the torpedo loading bays and report to the Weapons Officer. Ordnance Chief The Ordnance Chief is responsible for supervising the Ordnance technicians who do the physical labour of manoeuvring and loading torpedoes and phaser equipment. Ordnance Technician The Ordnance technicians do the physical labour of manoeuvring and loading torpedoes and phaser equipment. Deck Officer Every deck has an officer responsible for its function. This includes submitting damage and casualty reports and coordinating evacuations. Shuttle Officer All small spacecrafts aboard a starship, starbase or a facility are flown by Shuttle Pilots and coordinated by the Shuttle Officer. This is often the proving ground for pilots until they earn a berth on a starship as a Helmsman or Navigator. They report to the Chief Helmsman. Shuttle Petty Officer Responsible for shuttle flights. Shuttle Mechanic Responsible for the care and maintenance of the shuttlecraft. -

Communications (
) The Communications department is responsible for the operation of the Starfleet's communications systems. On many ships the Communications department is simply amalgamated with Operations; it is often only on Flagships (where a large amount of communications traffic can be received in a very short space of time) and Starbases (where there is an extremely large amount of communications traffic at almost all times).
Communications Officer Responsible for maintaining and upgrading the universal translator, controls the intercom and responsible for coordinating communications with other ships, stations or colonies/planets. Communications Chief The Communications Chief is responsible for managing all incoming and outgoing transmissions. This role involves the study of new and old languages and text in an attempt to better understand and interpret their meaning. Cryptography Officer Responsible for ensuring that long range messages to Starfleet and friends and family are encrypted for transmission. They are also involved in decrypting messages which are intercepted. Computer Officer Responsible for ensuring smooth operation of the computer and helping to fulfill library requests. Security (
) Merging the responsibilities of ship to ship and personnel combat into a single department, the armory division is responsible for the tactical readiness of the vessel and the security of the ship.
Security Officer The Security Officer is responsible for security "in and around the starship" and also takes on a threat assessment role, working together with the weapons officer. In combat, the weapons officer would, in practice, deputise them to run the defensive systems of the starship as well as coordinating security operations. Ultimately, the person responsible for keeping the crew safe is in charge of defensive systems.
Her/his duty is to ensure the safety of ship and crew. Some take it as their personal duty to protect the Commanding Officer/First Officer on away teams. She/he is also responsible for people under arrest and the safety of guests, liked or not. S/he also is a department head and a member of the senior staff, responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters.Combat Tactics Officer Combat Tactics Officers are responsible for advising the Security Officer on the best way to approach any given situation. This position is the equivalent of the Security Officer's Assistant and is regularly given to the most qualified secondary personnel within the security department. Armoury Officer Oversees the armoury. Training Officer Responsible for the training and certification of all ship personnel in firearms. Also doubles a recreation manager as they are based in the recreation deck's firing range. Combat Tactics Sergeant Advises the Combat Tactics Officer. Armoury Sergeant The Armoury Sergeant trains and supervises Armory crewmen in departmental operations, repairs, and protocols; maintains duty assignments for all Armory personnel; supervises weapons locker access and firearm deployment; and is qualified to temporarily act as Armory Officer if so ordered. Security Specialist These are the enlisted personnel responsible for security on the ship. They fill the role of soldiers, brig officers, policemen and anything else required by the Security Officer. -
Engineering (
) The engineering division has the enormous task of keeping the ship working; they are responsible for making repairs, fixing problems, and making sure that the ship is ready for anything.
Chief Engineer The Chief Engineer is responsible for the condition of all systems and equipment on board a Starfleet ship or facility. S/he oversees maintenance, repairs and upgrades of all equipment. S/he is also responsible for the many repairs teams during crisis situations.
The Chief Engineer is not only the department head but also a senior officer, responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and maintenance of the duty rosters.Engineer's Mate The Engineer's Mate assists the Chief Engineer in the daily work; in issues regarding mechanical, administrative matters and co-ordinating repairs with other departments. This is the equivalent of the 2391 Assistant Chief Engineer. Propulsion Officer Specifically tasked with the smooth running of the engines. Warp Drive Chief Reports to Propulsion Officer. Carries out work given to them by the Propulsion Officer on the Warp Drive. Will usually be a highly experienced expert in warp drive. Impulse Drive Chief Reports to Propulsion Officer. Carries out work given to them by the Propulsion Officer on the Impulse Drive. Will usually be a highly experienced expert in impulse drive. Power Officer Responsible for the smooth operation of the ship's main batteries. Environmental Officer Responsible for smooth operation of the ship's environmental systems. Shipfitting Officer A bulkhead needs replaced on H Deck. Who you gonna call? Damage Control Officer The Damage Control Officer is a specialized Engineer. The Damage Control Specialist controls all damage control aboard the ship when it gets damaged in battle. S/he oversees all damage repair aboard the ship, and coordinates repair teams on the smaller jobs so the Chief Engineer can worry about other matters.
A small team is assigned to the Damage Control Specialist which is made up from NCO personnel assigned by the Assistant and Chief Engineer. The Damage Control Specialist reports to the Assistant and Chief Engineer.Transporter Officer Responsible for smooth operation of the Constitution-class' temperamental transporter systems. Transporter Chief Responsible for the operation of the transporter but also for carrying out maintenance and repairs. Engineering Specialist There are several non-specialized engineers aboard of each vessel. They are assigned to their duties by the Chief Engineer and his Assistant, performing a number of different tasks as required, i.e. general maintenance and repair. Generally, engineers as assigned to more specialized engineering person to assist in there work is so requested by the specialized engineer.
This is an enlisted position for Non-Commissioned Officers. -
Science (
) From sensor readings to figuring out a way to enter the strange spacial anomaly, the science division is responsible for recording data, testing new ideas out, and making discoveries.
Science Officer The Chief Science Officer is responsible for all the scientific data the ship/facility collects, and the distribution of such data to specific section within the department for analysis. S/he is also responsible with providing the ship's captain with scientific information needed for command decisions.
S/he also is a department head and a member of the Senior Staff and responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters.Sensor Officer There are several Sensor Officers aboard each vessel. They are assigned to their duties by the Chief Science Officer and his Assistant. They generally monitor incoming sensor data and are qualified to work on the bridge as relief officers when necessary. Computer Scientist Need some ancient technology cracked or just need someone to sift through the library computer- these are your people. Anthropologist Botanist Biologist Chemist Archaeologist Astrophysicist HIstorian Cartographer Lab Researchers Highly qualified enlisted personnel who work across the whole science division to assist the departmental scientists. Medical (
) The medical division is responsible for the mental and physical health of the crew, from running annual physicals to combatting a strange plague that is afflicting the crew to helping a crew member deal with the loss of a loved one.
Chief Surgeon The Chief Surgeon is the primary Medical Officer and is responsible for the physical health of the entire crew, but does more than patch up injured crew members. His/her function is to ensure that they do not get sick or injured to begin with, and to this end monitors their health and conditioning with regular check ups. If necessary, the Chief Medical Officer can remove anyone from duty, even a Commanding Officer. Besides this s/he is available to provide medical advice to any individual who requests it. Surgeon Surgeons undertake the majority of the work aboard the ship/facility, examining the crew, and administering medical care under the instruction of the Chief Surgeon. Psychiatric Officer Because of their training in psychology, technically the ship's/facility's Psychiatric Officer is considered part of Starfleet Medical. The Psychiatric Officer is responsible both for advising the Commanding Officer in dealing with other people and races, and in helping crew members with personal, psychological, and emotional problems.
The Counselor reports to the Chief Medical Officer.Pharmacist The pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medication to ships' personnel as prescribed by the surgeons. Pathologist Responsible for handling the affairs of the dead on the ship. Dentist One of the least popular people on the ship. Head Nurse A senior enlisted officer responsible for the nursing staff. Nurse Nurses are trained in basic medical care, and are capable of dealing with less serious medical cases. In more serious matters the nurse assist the medical officer in the examination and administration of medical care, be this injecting required drugs, or simply assuring the injured party that they will be ok. The Nurses also maintain the medical wards, overseeing the patients and ensuring they are receiving medication and care as instructed by the Medical Officer. -
Ship's Services (
) Ship's services are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the vessel. Everything from the Quartermaster to the Chefs, the commissary staff to the maintenance and cleaning crews fall under this department.
Boatswain Responsible for the provision of equipment and services aboard the ship.
As deck crew foreman, the boatswain plans the day's work and assigns tasks to the deck crew. As work is completed, the boatswain checks on completed work for compliance with approved operating procedures.
Outside the supervisory role, the boatswain regularly inspects the vessel and performs a variety of routine, skilled, and semi-skilled duties to maintain all areas of the ship not maintained by the engineering department. These duties can include cleaning, painting, and maintaining the vessel's hull, superstructure and deck equipment as well as executing a formal preventive maintenance program.
Cargomaster Responsible for the handling and safe transfer of cargo incoming and outgoing on the ship. Reports regularly to the quartermaster. Commissary Chief Responsible for supplies and food aboard the ship. Operates as an equivalent quartermaster for food supplies on board. Maintenance Chief Responsible for liaising with the Deck Officers to assign maintenance and janitorial crews to required decks. Chef Waiter Bartender Bartenders are responsible for serving drinks in the observation lounges and recreation areas of the ship. Service Specialist Responsible for all the dirty jobs on the Starship.
