No Time for Welcome

Mission: The Night Cries
Location: Transporter Room 1, USS Farragut
Timeline: 2278.47: 0600hrs

Awareness returned and Ashley Kennedy found herself in the grey and orange splendour of one of the Farragut's transporter rooms. The brief feeling of excitement she felt was quickly hosed down by the realisation that she had a very serious job to do. The thrill of a new assignment, a new ship and a new mission would have to wait for later.

The transporter chief stood to attention when she saw several members of the ship's senior staff materialise on her platform.

"At ease, Chief," Ash said as she led the others off the platform.

Daisy Skie-Cloud hopped off the transporter pad onto the deck with a soft slap of her sandals making contact. It was good to be back on the Farragut where she had her quarters. She gave a huge jaw breaking yawn as she had spent an all nighter partying with some of the Fleet and locals on Cestus. Then she smiled warmly at the Chief, "Hi hi!" Moving to the Transporter Chief. Handing over a package to her. "I got it for ya. It took some finagling to get it." One of the crew that made the trip from Sol-3 with her and became a regular in the ship's gym with her for their exercise session.

As amusing as it was to watch Daisy go through her various greetings, Ri had her own regular ritual for coming back aboard. She patted the interior wall in a silent show of support, as if to say 'I'm here' and 'I won' let the refit team continue to torture you'. She already spied about three things in the transporter room that had changed from the original design layout and the need to go eyeball the rest of the changes was pretty strong.

"Okay, listen up," Ash said, putting a sterner tone into her voice. She led the small party out of the transporter room and headed for the nearest turbolift stop as she spoke. "Our job is to make sure this ship is ready to go at any moment. Not all of the crew is aboard yet, but enough of the transfers are here to give you working departments. I'm going to need a status report on each of your departments by zero-nine-thirty. Any questions?"

"None at all, Ma'am!" Daisy eyes sparkled with getting her second wind. "Will I be moving from Graveyard shift to Alpha shift?" Hopping from foot to foot with budding excitement as she tagged along with the group of Senior Officers that she just met not more than 48 hours ago. "Will I be able to finish out Shore Leave or is that been canceled?"

Ash gave the ensign a sideways glance as they walked. "Yes, you're on Alpha," she said before looking forward again and adding, "and yes, shore leave is cancelled."

Well that made Ri's life easier. No shoreleave meant more looming over the refit team like an angry buzzard. The trouble was the 0930 business.. Even if she didn't sleep, there was a lot of ground to cover and crew to meet to try and squeeze a report in that fast. "I can get you a running update by oh-nine-thirty, but it won't likely be complete."

"A preliminary report will be fine," Ash replied. They reached the turbolift stop and she thumbed the call button before turning back to the chief engineer. "Focus on the major systems. I'm not necessarily worried about the status of light fittings in cargo areas, but I want to know if our engines are working at their best."

Ensign Skie-Cloud spoke up. "It should be the same for Communication. No changes unless someone tampered with the com's station." There wasn't much for her to do. She turned way from the others to hide a yawn from her being up more than close to two days straight. She was looking for some time in the rack.

"Then it should be easy for you, Ensign," Ash shot back in a tone that brokered no argument.

The doors to the turbolift swished open and Ash led them all inside. "Okay then," she said as she turned to face the doors. "Let's get it done," she said with a crocked smile as the doors slid shut.
