Complexity of Security

Posted on Tue May 26th, 2015 @ 8:02pm by Lieutenant Duncan Harper & Captain Aidan Rackham

Mission: The Belle of Bellatrix
Location: Security Complex [G Deck, USS Farragut]
Timeline: 2278.49: 0710hrs.

Duncan had started settling in on The Farragut. Sure Science had all their Labs and Engineers had all of their Plasma Conduits and Manifolds, but Duncan had something way much better.

The Security Chief had an entire Complex to work with! Many in his Department had affectionately dubbed it as 'The Bunker' due to the nature of the spacious nature of the Complex. There were several Brigs located there along with the Weapons Lockers it even had its very own Lounge. And like any dedicated Security Officer, Lieutenant Harper relished the chance to run such a Department.

The Lieutenant sat at one of the Terminals in the Control section, he essentially requisitioned himself a Desk for day to day use. He took the time to Monitor the Ships Weapon Inventory and Security Briefings.

"Got your feet under the desk, Lieutenant?" Rackham stood at the door next to the unmanned 'booking desk' which greeted visitors to the Bunker. He motioned somewhere on the other side of the open plan room. "You know you have your own office?"

Duncan nodded. "That is true Sir, but I can't keep a close eye on the comings and goings from that distance." The Security Chief chuckled as he got up from his seat. "Besides in the event of an Emergency I can reach the Weapons Locker quicker."

"Always prepared. I like to see that." Rackham smiled. "How are your security teams coming together?"

Duncan got up from his seat. "Very well Captain, not too bad at all." He nodded as he approached the Captain and motioned to one of the aft Sections. "I have all teams running action drills if you care to see?"

Rackham was pleased to see that the Lieutenant had gained control of his teams so quickly. Security could be a tricky department with the usual ego found in a departmental setting multiplied by a number of times. "Lead the way, Lieutenant."

The Lieutenant nodded and then took him to one of the Aft Training Areas. "Lieutenant Miller is playing the Hostile attacking team and Chief Dunbar the Defender." He pointed to a training scenario. "You will like this bit." The scenario allowed for two teams of four and watched as they clashed.

"What are their goals?" Rackham asked, fascinated by the use of space.

"Miller has to get her team to the Upper Section and proceed to Station C and capture the Flag, Dunbar has to stop her and he has to use all the space around him." Duncan commented pointing out the make shift set up they had devised. "The twist is I have deactivated both teams' weapons so it's close quarters."

"I doubt they'll be pleased when they realise." Rackham smiled. "Do they regularly undertake close-quarters training?"

Duncan shook his head. "Most of the Department is made up of green Academy Graduates or Enlistees." The Security Officer pointed out two or three in the Crowd. "This is all part of the training evaluations I am setting up."

"Fantastic. Have you had an opportunity to check out your firing range on the Recreation Deck?" Rackham asked, turning away from the training zone just as things looked like they were getting exciting. "You have priority over it but I've seen a lot of people enjoying it during their off-hours. You'll have some able deputies in no time."

Harper chuckled. "Ensign Zarn is there as we speak." Duncan chuckled. "Can I get you tea or coffee?" He asked pointing towards the booking desk.

"Unfortunately I have a few other appointments to keep." Rackham offered the Lieutenant a polite smile. This guy was a cop through-and-through. It was vitally important to know where the caffeine was.

"In that case I will leave you to it Sir." Duncan smiled as the two shook hands and parted ways for the moment.
