Drinks Reception - Quirks Of The Job

Location: Officer's Mess [Deck 2]
Timeline: 2278.49: 2000hrs.

Duncan was next to show up, as the Security Officer on the Ship he was here in dual capacity, one to mingle and the other to make sure things didn't get out of hand. Though from those he had already met since arriving it didn't seem as though that would be an issue.

Daisy spying Duncan, waves to him, "Hi!" She neary yelled across the room from where she was at and moved over to greet him with a hug. "Foods really great!"

Duncan took a moment to adjust to the hug from the Ensign. Something he did not expect her to do in truth. But he had grown to appreciate Ensign Sky Cloud and all her quirks. "I think you need to go easy on all the sugary stuff."

"Sugar and spice, makes a female all nice," Daisy laughed softly in Duncan's ear as she released the hug. "Glad you could make it." Seeing Commander Kennedy by herself, "should I go give Commander Kennedy a hug to?"

The Lieutenant bit his lip to stifle a chuckle. "I don't think the Commander is the huggy type Ensign." He shrugged. "But then again you never know do you?"

Daisy looked over a Kennedy and made a few funny faces, "she don't like me. But my momma always says, 'give the person a chance'." Smiled friendly at Kennedy and then turned her attention back to Harper. "Enjoying yourself? Or you rather be smashing heads in?"

"No, I'm enjoying myself thanks." Duncan smiled at the Ensign. "So how about you? Are fitting in okay?" He asked politely.

Daisy nodded happy. "Doing okay. Everyone's really helpful towards each other. You know DiMarco is a superb engineer and has awesome techs she commands."

Duncan smiled. "That's good, now what do they have to offer in the form of drinks?" He asked curiously looking around.

"I don't know. I have my hands full to really check." Daisy spoke as she stepped away from Duncan. She looked over at Kennedy and then moved on over to her to sit next to her. "Hi Commander. Enjoying yourself?"

Ash regarded the ensign cautiously. Her free-spirited outlook and somewhat naive enthusiasm were completely alien to Ashley. She didn't like it. And she didn't approve of what she was wearing. But, this was a casual function and she was trying to be friendly. Be tolerant of other people's ways of life, she told herself, recalling words given to her by one of her mentors. To the ensign, though, she said, "I've been to worse mixers, Ensign."

David found a seat at the table with Daisy and Kennedy, smiling, "Hello, Commander," He said with a grin, in a tone that let her know she could finish talking to Daisy before bothering with him. In fact, maybe, if he was lucky, he'd keep appetizers jammed in his mouth enough to prevent him from saying anything else foolish.

Kennedy nodded in acknowledgement of Windsor's greeting and returned her focus to Skie-Cloud.

Daisy mouth opened then shut just as quickly, some of her enthusiasm faded. She was looking at Ashley with her eyes wide as if she was studying her. "I see." Blurted out after an awkward moment of silence. "I - err.. uh... excuse me! Have a good time." Daisy fled with a slight pink tinge to her face. Lieutenant Commander was too much like Captain Gunning. Way too formal. Maybe she could be placed back on graveyard shift. The shift where there was the most excitement happens.

Ash furrowed her brow as the ensign beat a hasty retreat. Although she had some mild disappointment at yet another social failure, a bigger part of her found some perverse joy in being able to intimidate a junior officer so effortlessly. She fought back a chuckle and turned back to the others at the table.

Duncan got himself a drink and stood around as he examined the Officer's Mess. Some of them he had met when he first arrived, others from signing up to his Phaser Courses. But there were some faces he didn't easily recognise and for a moment, he felt practically ancient amongst the young faces.
