Skills School

Mission:
The Belle of Bellatrix
Location: Security Complex, G Deck
Duncan stood watching the Drill that was taking place, so far Dunbar was doing very well at keeping Miller and her Team away from their Objective.
Both Teams had already realised that Duncan had deactivated their Weapons, so now it would be a test of Close Quarters. But also of Skill. He knew that they were competent enough leaders.
But it would be interesting to see who would prevail first.
Ash wandered into the security complex on G Deck with a PADD tucked neatly under her arm. She carried herself with her usual air of detached tranquility as she crossed the deck toward the person she could tell was Lieutenant Harper, even from behind. The security chief was an island of calm in a sea of activity as teams of security crewmen were engaged in a rather rigorous drill.
That, or discipline is seriously lacking, Ash joked with herself. Of course, she knew this was a drill. She walked up behind the chief of security and cleared her throat to make her presence known.
Duncan turned around offered a smile. "Commander Kennedy, hello Ma'am." He offered her a hand. "Welcome to the Bunker."
She took his hand and shook it firmly. "I'm glad to finally get a chance to check it out," she said, though she looked past Duncan at the activity behind him. "What's going on, Lieutenant?"
"A training Drill." Duncan said pointing out the last part of the Exercise as Chief Dunbar and his team managed to repel Miller and the attacking Team. "It's from a 21st Century Game called Capture the Flag."
Ash nodded, she knew the game but hadn't seen it played out in the confines of a starship before. As such, she was fascinated by the action and she stood for a moment taking it all in, her keen eye analysing the activity. She focused on a couple of non-commissioned crew a little off to the side of the main melee and noted that they seemed at a higher aggression level. One held the other roughly by his collar and was bending him back to the ground with a fierce snarl curling his lip. "Who are those two?" she asked, gesturing toward them with a nod of her head. "That almost looks personal."
Duncan sighed. "Oh dear." The Lieutenant then quickly moved across the deck towards the incident. He grabbed one of them by the Collar. "That is enough! Stop it now!" He barked fiercely like nobody had ever seen before now. "What the hell are you doing?"
The Crewmen stopped and looked at the Lieutenant. Neither of them said a word to Duncan or to each other.
For all his hard work in running an efficient Unit, these two were a blip. "Rawlins report to Chief Collins in the Weapons Locker and help him with Phaser inventory." His attention then turned to the man still firmly in his grasp. "As for you Crewman Zadar, you can take over the Cargobay Watch." The Lieutenant shook his head. "Report back here at 18:00 hours and the three of us will sort out your personal issues my way."
The two Crewmen nodded and then dusted themselves off before leaving
The first officer nodded approvingly as she watched the exchange. It was almost inevitable on a starship, even in this day and age, that personalities would clash or someone takes something too far. A good leader knew how to deal with such situations and Harper gave an excellent demonstration.
"I wonder," she said, watching Zadar sulk away, "what is 'your way' of sorting out their personal issues?"
Duncan chuckled. "I have several methods, but for this situation I am going to give them some boxing gloves." He said pointing to parts of the complex. "Myself and Chief Dunbar devised the concept as a means of venting frustration in a secure setting, we had two Botanists here yesterday morning."
Ash nodded with a wry smile, "I hear those botany disagreements can turn deadly," she said deadpan.
The Lieutenant couldn't contain himself much longer. "Wait until you see the Stellar Cartographers." He grinned before moving back to the booking desk. "I have fresh Coffee and Tea on the side if you like?"
The smile on Ash's face had turned almost warm, but she quickly stowed it when he offered refreshments. The air of stern professionalism returned as though she’d pulled on a mask. “Another time, perhaps,” she said, visibly straightening her back. “Lieutenant, I wanted to discuss with you the possibility of an officer exchange between our two departments. I have a couple of junior officers – ordnance officers – who could use a polish in the discipline department.”
Duncan nodded as he poured a cup of tea for himself. "An exchange?" That is an intriguing prospect Commander." He said with a look of curiosity now spread across his face. "And you feel my methods may help with their discipline?" He asked her.
She nodded, "I do. On a temporary basis, of course," she said. "I think spending some time in security would help with their discipline, but will also expand their skills set. They could learn a lot. In the same way, I think a couple of your officers would learn a lot working with the big guns, so to speak." She paused and raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"
"I agree with your Assessment Commander." Duncan said to her, he knew that things like that could be extremely useful in an emergency. "One or Two of my Staff would like that challenge if it was given to them."
"Excellent," Kennedy replied with a nod. "How about we split their shifts for the next week to see how it goes? They'll start a watch in their home department before swapping out for the second half. If that suits you, of course."
"Of course, I think we have a good idea to run with Commander." Duncan agreed. He liked the concept that the XO had proposed and it seemed like it would be beneficial to all involved.. "I have the perfect Candidates."
"Excellent," she said again with a matching nod. "I'll have Okoro and sh'Ryiss report to you at twelve hundred hours tomorrow. Thank you, Lieutenant. I think this will be good for both our departments."
Duncan nodded. "Yes Ma'am."
